The Act

Nothing can explain a situation better than stating a real life experience. I have heard several stories about divorce in the united states but I know a story about a couple who got annuled a few months ago. Let's keep their names as Cindy and Robert. Cindy and Robert were married for three years, had 2 kids and recently got an annulment because of an abusive relationship. It started when they had a few misunderstandings ecause of financial reasons, robert would always hit cindy on the face and shout at her. There is a presence of physical and verbal abuse. Cindy got so frustrated so she filed a ln annulment case. It was accepted and the kids are hers. She then decided to fly to Canada and live a new life. After doing so, she met a man who was willing to take care of her. She made the decision to go back to the Philippines, get married and retire. When they got back here, they could not get married because she was just annuled. Annulment made her life miserable and lonely. So she decided to live in with the guy, and allow Robert to visit her kid every week. Thus legal separation is not much different from divorce. The only difference is that they can get remarried in divorce. She met the man of her dreams yet she could still not make him her husband. Her husband wanted to live in Canada with her and get married there but she did not want to leave her family in the Philippines. Annulment is much like divorce but divorce makes life for couples who are in an abusive marriage and the like, escape fully their haunted marriages. In divorce they have the ability to cut all ties between the both of them. In the Philippines, it has been discussed in the previous blog posts that this country is very religious. Religious to the point of rejecting all "immoral" sins according to the church, one of which is divorce. Divorce is considered to be a part of the new age, the Church is afraid that adultery and unfaithfulness will prevail. They are afraid that Filipinos will let go of their values an morals. Just like Cindy in the story, she was committed to a man for three years and suddenly she wants to commit to another man. This is what the church is trying to avoid, abrupt decision making and non-Christian decisions. They are trying to uphold Filipino values the way Filipinos should act. Filipinos are very religious and if the divorce bill will have a place in the Philippines, there will be chaos. Chaos in a sense that this country will have more than what they should have in a detrimental way. This is a religious country, people should not be thinking about divorce, marriage is a solemn act. This act of remarriying is solely against the teachings of the Church. Solely against God and solely--pro divorce. Filipinos are left with a choice, to accept the divorce bill,or not?
